Short Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner is assigned responsibility for the primary health care of patients in their area of expertise as well as special health care under the direction of members of the medical staff. Evaluation and care of patients occur within the scope of practice defined and agreed to by members of the administrative team and medical staff. The nurse practitioner plans and implements, and a physician reviews and confirms, health care goals for patients and their families. The nurse practitioner works closely with the clinical nurse manager and staff to ensure that patient needs are met.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.
Job Duties:
1. Serve as a role model and advocate in the delivery of compassionate, comprehensive care to patients and their families.
Utilize expert knowledge, skills, and abilities to strengthen clinical practice in their specialty throughout the organization.
Provide expert nursing care to their selected patient population.
Evaluate patient outcomes and revises plans of care accordingly, discusses health care plan with the patient and healthcare team, and documents in the health record.
Prescribes and treats patients accordingly.
Participates in the development and evaluation of patient and family education materials.
Consult with nursing staff in the development of teaching plans for patients and their families.
Specialty procedures to instruct:
Arterial (radial access only) and venous access (peripheral access only).
Insert central line
PICC line insertion
Remove abscess drains and nephrostomy tubes
Tunnel line removal
Paracentesis
Thoracentesis
2. Act as an internal consultant to staff and the community on healthcare issues in the area of expertise.
3. Facilitate research interpretation and clinical studies
4. Promote the professional development of all nurses through specialty training and education.
Fosters staff education and development.
Serves as a role model and resource person throughout the organization for their clinical specialty.
Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability needed to ensure care appropriate to the age and needs of the population served.
Job Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
A Master’s degree in Nursing required
A current RN license in the State of Illinois required
A current APN license in the State of Illinois required
Current DEA License required at time of hire
Certification as an advanced practice nurse by the appropriate certifying organization required
Clinical experience is strongly preferred
