Today, we have a different kind of Nurse of the Week to celebrate. Please say hello to Vivian’s new Nurse Concierge, Erika Kaneko! She will be joining us part time to support nurses on the Vivian platform.
We asked Erika a few questions. Here’s what she had to say:
Tell us about your nursing career:
I have been a critical care ICU RN for the last 2 years. I worked in corporate retail in San Francisco after college and I decided I wanted to go into healthcare. I became a nurse because I wanted to directly impact other people’s lives every day. Being a nurse is a privilege. The opportunities to help others is limitless-may it be in the hospital at the bedside, in the community in public health, policy, education, and beyond. I look forward to seeing how my nursing career evolves.
Any fond memories in your nursing career?

What’s the best part about being a nurse?
I love the connections I am able to form with my patients and patient family members. I take care of my patients as if they were my own family members. I also love the camaraderie among the staff. My first charge nurse told me nursing is a team sport so I should never feel like I am alone. No shift is ever the same so there’s always this element of excitement and anticipation.
Do you have any advice for other nurses out there?
I’m still a new nurse, but the best advice I’ve received is to never be afraid to ask for help. Like I said, nursing is a team sport so your colleagues should be there to support you.
Thank you Erika for all you do and we are excited to have you as part of of Vivian Nurse Concierge Team!!
