Baylor University Medical Center – Dallas (BUMC) is a healthcare institution rich in history and tradition. Founded in 1903, BUMC has been a medical care and research pioneer for over a century. Baylor University Medical Center showcases its Christian roots through its mission statement regarding patient care. BUMC states it “exists to serve all people by providing personalized health and wellness through exemplary care, education and research as a Christian ministry of healing.” The focus on providing care continues with its vision statement: “To be the most trusted name in giving and receiving safe, quality, compassionate healthcare.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 1903 as Good Samaritan Hospital with a 25-bed capacity, Baylor University Medical Center changed its name to Texas Baptist Memorial Sanitarium one year later. It wasn’t until 1959 that the hospital became known as the Baylor University Medical Center we know today. Since its foundation, BUMC has grown to 1,025 licensed beds.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hospital was once home to a medical school, Baylor University College of Medicine (now known as Baylor College of Medicine), but parted ways in 1943 when the school moved to Houston. In 2020, Baylor University Medical Center reestablished academic affiliations with Baylor College of Medicine. In addition, it established a new alliance with Texas A&M University to train future clinicians and continue to develop groundbreaking medical research.<\/span><\/p>\n

BUMC became part of the <\/span>Scott & White Healthcare <\/span>system in 2013 to form <\/span>Baylor Scott & White Health<\/span><\/a>, becoming recognized as the flagship hospital of Baylor Scott & White Health – North Texas. <\/span>\u00a0Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas<\/span>. It employs over 10,000 nurses across more than 52 hospitals in more than 25 clinical specialties.<\/span><\/p>\n
