When I took a 12-week assignment near Estes Park, Colorado, I knew I wanted something more than a bare-bones campground or posting up in random parking lots in town for 3 months. I was traveling in my camper van, looking for a spot that offered not only full hookups and reliable Wi-Fi, but also a sense of calm\u2014a place to truly <\/span>rest<\/span><\/i> between shifts. <\/span>Jellystone Park\u2122 in Estes <\/b>Park<\/strong>, CO<\/strong> checked every box and then some.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

From the moment I pulled in and got settled, I felt like I\u2019d found my own little oasis\u2014nestled at the base of the canyon, just minutes from downtown but worlds away in vibe.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Just Minutes From the Action\u2014But Tucked Into Peace<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

Set right before the canyon opens into the meadows of Estes Park and the dramatic expanse of <\/span>Rocky Mountain National Park<\/b>, Jellystone Estes Park feels remote without being isolated. I loved that I could be in the heart of town in 10 minutes, at <\/span>Lake Estes in five<\/b>, or parked at the <\/span>Beaver Meadows entrance<\/b> to the national park within 15.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

And when I didn\u2019t feel like going anywhere, I didn\u2019t have to. The on-site hiking trails became my favorite way to stretch my legs before or after a shift. No need to drive anywhere\u2014just step outside and walk into the pines. It was the kind of peaceful, convenient escape that made it easy to imagine staying for a full 13-week travel nurse contract.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A Charming Basecamp for Exploring Estes Park<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

On my days off, I took full advantage of being so close to Estes Park. This town had a mountain charm that really hit the sweet spot\u2014lively but not too overwhelming. I\u2019d grab a morning coffee from <\/span>Kind Coffee<\/b>, take a solo walk along the riverwalk, and maybe end the day with a treat from <\/span>The Taffy Shop<\/b> (yes, it\u2019s worth it).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

One of my favorite post-shift wind-downs was heading to <\/span>Rock Cut Brewing<\/b> for a drink and some friendly conversation with locals. If you\u2019re traveling solo, spots like this make it easy to feel like part of the community.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

And then there\u2019s <\/span>Rocky Mountain National Park<\/b>\u2014one of the biggest perks of staying here long-term. I hiked <\/span>Emerald Lake<\/b>, drove <\/span>Trail Ridge Road<\/b> at sunrise, and spotted elk in <\/span>Moraine Park<\/b> more times than I can count. Having access to all this in my downtime was incredible\u2014and something I\u2019ll never take for granted.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A Short Escape from the City (or a Home Base Within It)<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

Though I was based in Estes, I appreciated how close <\/span>Denver<\/b> still felt. In under two hours, I could make it back to the city for a weekend, catch a concert at <\/span>Red Rocks<\/b>, or just explore some of the food and art scenes in <\/span>RiNo<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

It also works in reverse\u2014if you\u2019re stationed in Denver and need a weekend escape, this is <\/span>the spot<\/span><\/i>. The drive alone, winding through the canyon, helped me reset.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
