Overview Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges and can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients and 2 hallway areas, and the South side houses 36 patients and another 2 hallway areas. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. Short Description * Assumes responsibility and accountability for the direction, implementation and evaluation of patient care services within the assigned unit at the direction of the Clinical Director and in his/her absence. * This role is broad in scope and requires the ability to work independently and apply a high degree of judgment. * Assigns workload and assumes responsibility for the operational functioning of the department. * Ensures the delivery of patient care through the coordination of customer services and the leadership and management of the nursing unit at the direction of the Clinical Director. * Assists the Clinical Director in coordinating interdepartmental and ancillary activities to ensure quality, cost-effective patient care. * Assists the Clinical Manager in directing the preparation and maintenance of patient's clinical record, including nursing and medical treatments and related services provided by the Registered Nurse. * Assists the Clinical Director in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to achieve departmental objectives. * Assists the Clinical Director in ensuring that the staff participates in educational activities and the evaluation process to enhance their personal growth and development. * Acting as a liaison between nursing and medical staff, serving as a problem-solver and mediator for positive change; develops and maintains effective intra and interdepartmental relationships. Experience Required * A minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year of demonstrated leadership abilities. * Requires strong planning skills and a solid understanding of Patient and Family Centered Care. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Education Requirements * Graduate from an NLN accredited school of nursing. * BSN required. License/Certification Requirements * Current New Jersey license as a Registered Nurse, BLS certification. * National certification preferred within area of specialty for critical care, operating room, endoscopy and trauma. * Certain specialties may require advanced certification (i.e. ACLS, NRP, PALS).
