Description

$20,000 Sign on Bonus! $7,000 on first check, $6,500 after 6 months, $6,500 at 1 year

Martin County Hospital District (MCHD) was organized in 1967 and has boundaries coterminous with Martin County, Texas. It is located in the heart of West Texas. Opened in 1949, the hospital was originally located near downtown Stanton. This facility served the community well for many years, but was replaced with a state of the art 18 bed facility in 2012. The new facility is located on I20, and has been designated as a Critical Access Hospital.


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of a surgeon, to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.


GENERAL ADMINISTRATION:

  • Obtains and checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
  • Sets up, maintains and keeps sterile filed in organized fashion.
  • Transfers patient to operating room table
  • Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed
  • Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants
  • Passes instruments in a safe manor etc., to surgeon and/or assistant during procedure
  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
  • Properly cares for specimens
  • Prepares and secures sterile dressings
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and transports to decontamination area appropriately.
  • Assists in cleaning and preparing room for next patient
  • Performs necessary duties as assigned within scope of practice.
  • Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
  • Follows aseptic procedures and precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
  • Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Follows safety and infection control guidelines and policies for the hospital.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Administration.
Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification from an accredited Surgical Tech training program preferred.
  • Graduated or awarded certification of completion from accredited Surgical Tech training program.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • One (1) year experience as a Surgical Tech in a hospital environment preferred.


PLANNING/ORGANIZATION:

  • Must pay close attention to detail at all times.
  • Must be comfortable working with hands and able to provide needed equipment quickly.
  • Must work well under pressure while providing a high level of care.


PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:

  • Participates in educational experiences designed to maintain competence.
  • Annually completes all required in-service and training:
  • Safety –Fire
  • TB
  • Safety Storm – Alpha, Beta, Gamma
  • Human Trafficking
  • HIPAA


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires standing for an extended period of time
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity (with correction) to read equipment controls, computer terminals, printed materials, and operate other equipment;
  • Must have hearing acuity to hear spoken communications from the general public or co-workers as
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing in English;
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Working environment is generally favorable;
  • There is exposure to risk in the form of disease, radiation, and disoriented or combative patients.
  • High potential for exposure to blood and body fluids;
  • Personal protective equipment required for at-risk procedures.
  • May be requested to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations, which Administration considers an emergency.
