Duties

*** Bargaining Position ***

Join the Amarillo VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (Intermittent/Float Pool). You will perform daily care for residents including: activities of daily living, dressing, hygiene care, nail care, toileting, restorative programs, assistance with feeding, decluttering, end-of-life care, and post-mortem care. Demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and respectful attitude. You will assume a peer education and mentorship role with lower level LVNs, and serve as a team leader on neighborhood under RN guidance. Complete wound care treatment as ordered by physician. Including documentation and assessment for preventative wound care treatment. You will maintain a working knowledge of each neighborhood on unit, and assist other staff as necessary to ensure proper care. You will also gather information about patient condition and communicate to RN to develop specific plan of care for patient. Other duties include:

  • Understand and use of nurse call system, answering alarm/phone appropriately, responding promptly to resident situation.
  • Understanding of the Wanderguard system process, policy, and prompt response to alarm.
  • Complete daily/shift documentation as appropriate. Not limited to CLC Wound Care & Treatment Note.
  • Use appropriate infection control measures as listed in the orientation check-off packet.
  • Obtain Intake and Outputs appropriately (oral intake, IV pump, feeding pump, Foley catheter, urinal, drains etc. and reports shift totals/deviations to RN.
  • Collaborate with Team, committees, workgroups and /or projects related to the implementation of Veteran Care.
  • Assist the provider and/or RN with gathering data chart reviews and documents appropriately.
  • Ready specialty clinic for provider and patients by obtaining current clinic appointment list, ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available, lab and diagnostic tests are ordered, lab and diagnostic results pertaining to the specialty clinic appointment are available for provider.
  • Supports Team development through remediation, mentoring certification, and product roll-outs.
