The Nurse Manager role manages, supervises, and evaluates care delivery of assigned staff. The Nurse Manager is responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidence based nursing standards of practice. In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab, he/she creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. Promotes, creates, demonstrates, and ensures a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. The nurse manager executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care. The duties of the Nurse Manager Cath lab include but are not limited to -

  • Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses)
  • Effectively functions as the charge nurse, team leader, or in other leadership role that guides and directs others who provide patient care
  • Assigns patient care responsibilities based upon patient needs and competencies of staff.
  • Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems that result in improved patient outcomes
  • The nurse promotes, advocates for and strives to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).
  • Listens to and honors patient and family perspectives and choices. Patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner
  • Maintains professional boundaries with patients, families, and employees. Behavior as a role model istransparent and above reproach
  • Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality of all electronic and printed patient informationaccording to HIPAA guidelines, the Privacy Act, and as stated in the Medical Center Memo on ADP Security.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own nursing judgments and actions.
  • Identifies potential and actual problems involving resources and/or safety. Takes action to avert or manage the situation in a manner which meets the needs of patients in a safe/therapeutic manner.
  • Effectively plans patient care and nursing resources for maximum staff productivity, staff and time efficiency, and positive patient outcomes. Effective on follow-up actions.
  • Demonstrates leadership in safe work practices. Complies with safety rules and regulations for safe job performance and fire protection.
  • Self-directed in seeking opportunities to increase knowledge and staff development activities.
  • Participates in orientation, unit based in-services, and mandatory education activities in a self-directed manner
  • The nurse participates in establishing, maintaining and improving healthcare environments and conditions of employment conducive to the provision of quality health care and consistent with the values of the professional through individual and collective action (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).
  • Evaluates unit performance as measured against TJC standards and takes action to correct deficits to ensure compliance as part of continued readiness.
  • As the supervisor, the incumbent ensures that the staff under his/her supervision is trained in the setup, use, reprocessing, and maintenance of their unit/department-specific equipment leading to the initial competency and validation of ongoing competency at least annually.
  • Demonstrates leadership in unit/program-based performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and good communication skills that enhance working effectively with others
  • Functions as a consultant and mentor to other nurses.
