There is a great divide better the NICU and the rest of the Peds cultures (and this review only pertains to McLanes- I did not have experience with the adult side).  I enjoyed my time in their NICU, however they have a serious culture problem everywhere else.  RT’s are given no respect in their PICU- the attending will push the RT’s out of the way instead of offering constructive criticism or providing direction.  The attending physician will demean and belittle staff members in front of patients and families.  The department has some great therapists who want to advocate for their patients and provide excellent patient care, however their opinions are stifled by the horrible culture.  The lack of respect from physicians toward respiratory therapists means nurses don’t work collaboratively with RT’s- instead the RN’s will change vent settings without even letting the assigned RT know, draw blood gases by themselves and even turn and retake ETT’s without involving the RT.  The expectation is for RT’s to give almost every patient q2 albuterol- even when there is no indication for treatments and no change it patient breath sounds or status.  The hospital is not up to date on best practices or evidence based medicine- instead they are stuck in the “we’ve always done XYZ this way” mindset- and still doing treatments and therapies that have not been best practice for at least 10 years (such as albuterol and CPT q2 for every “bronchiolitis” patient. The number of kids this place tries to diagnosis with asthma is scary- and sad for those families because asthma is a diagnosis that will follow these kids for the rest of their life- and can impact their career choices as adults.  The department has gone through 5 directors in a handful of years and has had difficulty keeping their managers as well.  The department when I was there was staffed mostly by travelers- but with the issues McLanes wants to turn a blind eye two, it is not a surprise.  The bedside staff that work there are friendly and willing to help.  Amongst the RT department, they are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and deserve better.

Yikes. The sign on bonus doesn’t make up for the toxic culture.

Pediatric Intensive Care-Advanced treatment for critically ill children

The pediatric critical care team at Baylor Scott &amp; White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple cares for children who are very ill or medically unstable with a 16-bed unit. These situations may result from very serious disease, infection or injury sustained from trauma, such as a traumatic brain injury. 

Critically ill children stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a dedicated area of the hospital with sophisticated technologies and highly trained staff who specialize in treating children in serious or critical condition. 

The PICU care team is made up of intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, Child Life specialists, social workers, pastoral staff and dietitians – all working together to provide round-the-clock treatment for our young patients.

Children in the PICU often have very complicated medical conditions that involve one or more pediatric medical specialties, such as pulmonology or cardiology. Our critical care specialists manage your child’s care in the PICU, working alongside other physicians dedicated to your child’s health. Schedule: Full-Time, Nights, 7P-7A, (3) 12 hours shifts per week

Unit Specifics: 48 beds, private medical/surgical rooms serving ages 0-21 years.

**At least 1-2 years of Pediatric experience required**

·      ECMO therapy, a lifesaving heart and lung treatment reserved for the sickest of patients and a designated level IV NICU.

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse, oversee patient care using a professional practice model. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses. Secure patient travel. Know about patient needs in healthcare. Help patients and prevent issues. Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.

Essential Functions of the Role

As an RN, conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs. Create, implement, and evaluate care plans. Adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.
Building relationships, managing discomfort, staying professional are vital in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Creating care plans reflecting values aids in resolving issues.

Qualifications

Grad of an Accredited Program
Specialized field of study should be nursing.
RN license.
Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.

Job Summary

As a Sterile Processing Technician 2, duties include cleaning, sterilizing, processing, arranging, and distributing patient equipment. You may also mentor Sterile Processing Technician 1 staff.

Essential Functions of the Role

Preparing and arranging rooms, including organizing instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies based on department needs.
Clean instruments and equipment using approved detergents and disinfectants. Operate sterilization equipment according to guidelines.
Efficiently handling inventory by ordering, replenishing, and distributing instruments, reusable medical equipment, and supplies for general and surgical use.
Follow strict safety, environmental, and infection control rules to uphold patient care and office standards.
Share skills with your team. Offer in-service training sessions. Assist with training Sterile Processing staff. Mentoring entry-level positions.
Key Success Factors

Familiarity with equipment and instrument sterilization techniques and procedures
Understanding of simple medical terminology
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, demonstrating tact when dealing with patients and colleagues

EXPERIENCE - (1) one year of experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Cer Board Sterile Prcng &amp; Dist (CBSPD), Cert Reg Central Service Tech (CRCST), Cert Sterile Proc/Distr Tech (CSPDT), Cert Surgical Technologist (CST): Must have one of these.
