An academic hospital in the Greater Boston is looking to build their OR departments. They are currently seeking a qualified and dedicated Operating Room Nurse as the newest addition to their staff. The OR Nurse will be responsible for nursing assessments, providing diagnoses, intervention planning, evaluation and coordination of care for patients and their families. Candidates with at least 6 months of experience, or those who have taken additional OR certification classes are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers necessary for completion of surgery
Observes the surgery and surgical team from broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
Assesses the patient’s condition before, during and after the operation to ensure an optimal outcome for the patient
Scrub and circulate as needed
Identify crisis situations and use decision making skills within the standards of clinical nursing practice to coordinate and communicate with other health care teams
Demonstrate utilization of critical thinking and problem solving skills by analyzing patient and family assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses
Work with patients to develop intervention practices that will allow them to attain realistic and appropriate clinical/educational outcomes consistent with patient's diagnoses
Ensure a clean unit environment through the utilization of appropriate risk management practices
Track and document patient's responses to interventions and provide follow-up care via home visits and telephone conversations when necessary and appropriate
Requirements:
Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing, associate’s, or bachelors of science degree program (BSN is preferred)
Must have at least 6 months related operating room/perioperative experience or related clinical internship for perioperative nursing certificate
Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support (BLS) certifications
Basic computer proficiency and ability to enter and interpret computerized data
Interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills are necessary
Ability to effectively manage stressful situations regarding critical patient care issues
The ability to speak multiple languages appropriate to patient populations served by the medical center is highly preferred
