The OR Department at Sylvester has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse 2 (RN 2). The RN 2:

Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the surgical department/patient care services as specific to the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.

Demonstrates the ability to titrate intravenous medications according to the patient’s hemodynamic status.

Demonstrates the ability to care for the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring including rhythm identification, interpretation and follow through with appropriate intervention.

Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques and actions.

Demonstrates the ability to care for the population served intra op patient

Demonstrates the ability to perform rapid assessment differentiating between short-and long-term needs.

Verification of the operative procedure, operative site, surgeon and consents

Assesses psychological status, including level of understanding, perception of surgery, and anxiety level.

Verification of patient allergies, NPO status, and whether or not patient has voided

Checks the current history and physical, laboratory results, the execution of perioperative orders, and results of ordered diagnostic tests.

Follows procedures for surgical interventions along with preferences of surgeon

Assembles necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to start of case.

Checks for availability and proper condition of necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment

Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts according to policy and procedure

Ensure safety of patients during the use of electrical equipment

Preps the surgical site using aseptic technique

Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens

Revises physician’s preference cards and communicates changes to appropriate personnel.

Accurately and promptly documents unusual occurrences noted during the perioperative phase

All areas in the intra-op documentation records are complete.

Communicates relevant findings to Physician/ARNP/Anesthesiology/PA Assists and expedites the transfer of patients to and from the OR.

Acts as a liaison between patients, caregivers and community resources.

Educates interdisciplinary team, patient/family on plan of care.

Serves as a direct care provider, as appropriate, to ensure outcome obtainment.

Documents concise, accurate and legible according to nursing policies and procedures and nursing standards.

Provides patient/family teaching using available resources and tools.

Acts as consultant to clinical staff in assisting with unfamiliar procedures/treatments.

Utilizes process of performance improvement.

Promotes patient safety.

Communicates changes in plan of care to the patient/family and the health care team members in a timely manner.

Demonstrates creativity and innovation in approach to complex problem solving.

Leads crisis management.

Delegates’ aspects of care to qualified personnel.

Administers IV contrast materials.

Administers and/or monitors blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures

Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing intervention and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient

Delivers sedation and analgesia according to hospital policy and procedure.

Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects.

Observes five Rights for administering meds: right patient, right drug, right dose, right method, and right time

Medication Administration as per hospital policy and procedure

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred. RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.

Certification and Licensing:

Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

Recent OR/procedural nursing preferred
