Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 14-bed Medical Telemetry unit (transitioning to a PCU focus) within a 457-licensed-bed, Level III Trauma teaching hospital
  • Common diagnoses and patient types include heart failure, chest pain, fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, cardiac cath pre/post care, and medical overflow
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6 (acuity dependent) on Med/Surg Tele, and 1:4 on PCU; surge periods may increase ratios to 1:7–8
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is managed through an off-unit arrhythmia center, with visual EKG capability at the nurses' station
  • EMR is Epic; experience preferred
  • IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitors are Philips
  • Unit equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, and Patient Safety Net
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:15 AM (shift start at 1845)
  • 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Every-other-weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH), and any freestanding ED within the region

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, chest tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titratable cardiac drips, and TR bands
  • Prior experience at a Level III Trauma or teaching hospital setting preferred
  • Must have separated from any AHSE facility permanent position for at least 1 year prior to consideration
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the unit (locals not accepted)
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • CNAs support the nursing team with ADLs, bathing, foley care, mobility, repositioning, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and glucometer checks
  • Phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs, CNAs, and the IV team; an IV/VAT team is available
  • Charge nurse is available but may carry a patient assignment; a Resource Nurse is available when staffing allows
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and is shared across multiple units; hospitalist coverage is available 24/7
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; additional time may be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours cannot be met
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking is available on site
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
