Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact RN license.

- 28-bed Post Surgical Care unit within a 457-licensed-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital that is also a designated Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Patient population includes orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow cases
- Patient ratios are 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
- General post-surgical skills utilized include incision care, assessment, drain management, chest tubes, wound care/wound vacs, mobility assistance, patient education, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: BD Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips and Masimo; remote telemetry monitoring in use
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – pediatrics only); candidates unwilling to float to all facilities in the region should not apply
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in general post-surgical nursing skills including wound care, chest tubes, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the unit (local candidates are not accepted)
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Departmental support includes CNAs (phlebotomy, ADLs, Foley insertion/removal, peripheral IV removal), a charge nurse, IV/VAT team, unit mentor, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, house supervisor, patient safety attendants/virtual patient observation, BERT Behavioral Response Team, and rapid response/code team
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Navy scrubs required; free parking available in designated areas
- Unit culture is described as positive and supportive
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
