Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma teaching hospital, specializing in surgical patients with night shift and every-other-weekend rotation requirements.
Details
- Work in a 5T Surgical unit at an 874-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Unit specializes in Head/Neck and GI surgical patients, including tracheostomies, laryngectomies, hernia repairs, colorectal surgeries, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, ostomy takedowns, and medical overflow
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- Night shift schedule: 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division hospitals)
- No on-call responsibilities for travelers
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors — no monitoring tech on unit
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- General Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
Additional Information
- Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, 24/7 Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (as available), 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time may be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours cannot be met
- Required scrub color: Navy
- Free parking available on site
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
