Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU Level 1 Trauma position in an acute care setting requiring EVD and strong neuro assessment skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in the Neuro ICU within a hospital acute care environment
- Level 1 Trauma facility with a 32-bed Neuro ICU
- Typical patient ratio is 1:2 in ICU, up to 4:1 when floated to Tele units
- Patient population includes critical neurological cases, post-craniotomies, brain tumor removals, ablations, biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
- Use of Cerner EMR is required in this role
- 12-hour day shifts (7am-7pm) with four weekend shifts required per four-week period
- Floating required between all ICU and Telemetry floors, with first float priority given to travelers
- Orientation includes two floor-based shifts and a required pass/fail SIMs Lab for specific nursing skills
- Duties include managing complex neuro critical care patients and providing care for ICU and Telemetry float assignments as needed
- Charge nurse is always present and does not take patients
- Vented patients and advanced neuro monitoring (ICP/EVD) are common
- SIMs lab includes pass/fail skills assessments for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Steel grey scrubs are required on neuro floors; otherwise, any non-offensive color or print is acceptable
- 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support are available
- Candidates must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Holiday shifts are assigned according to core staff rotation
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact State RN license must be in hand at time of consideration
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years' ICU experience in a hospital with at least 450 beds
- Must have prior Level 1 Trauma experience
- EVD monitoring and strong neuro assessment skills required
- Previous travel nurse experience (minimum 3-6 months) strongly preferred
- Must pass DYS (dysrhythmia) and sterile technique competency exams prior to or on Day 1 of orientation
- Experience with telemetry (Phillips monitors) and ventilators is required
- References from a recent supervisor and peer or supervisor from within the past three years required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
