Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic Level I Trauma teaching hospital, with experience managing mechanically ventilated patients required.

Details

  • Short-term acute care setting at a large academic Level I Trauma teaching hospital with 1,259 staffed beds
  • Respiratory therapy work across ICUs and general floor units
  • Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Weekend rotation every third weekend
  • Holiday coverage is expected
  • Floating within scope to ICUs and floor units to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Charting is performed in Epic; experience is required
  • Candidates are expected to manage mechanically ventilated patients regularly
  • The hospital campus is large and requires the ability to walk relatively long distances

Requirements

  • RRT credential required
  • Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required at time of consideration; pending IL license may be accepted for Illinois-based candidates
  • BLS (BCLS) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required
  • Proficiency with airway management: endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, nasal airway suctioning, oral airway placement, oropharyngeal suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy/suctioning
  • Experience with medication administration including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, Inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, Racemic Epinephrine, and Xopenex
  • Experience with medication delivery systems: aerosol setup (mask and trach), metered dose inhaler
  • Nebulizer experience required: handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy experience required
  • Ventilator management experience required: BiPAP, CPAP, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • ABG interpretation required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Ability to walk relatively long distances within a large hospital campus
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Scrub color required: medium to dark gray
  • Occasional precepting of respiratory therapy students may be requested, as this is a teaching hospital
  • Active AARC membership is strongly preferred
  • A bachelor's degree in any field — or active pursuit of one — is strongly preferred
  • RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
  • Travelers in Allied roles may work up to 12 months before being required to take a 6-month break in service
  • Former permanent employees of the facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; rates and availability vary by lot
