Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel assignment at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring active NE or Compact RN licensure and a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma Center
• Common diagnoses include COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, and neuro cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 for ICU; 1:4 for PCU and 1:5 for medical patients when downgrades occur
• Patient care techs available on the unit (1 tech up to 20 patients; 2 techs up to 24 patients)
• 24/7 critical care coverage with in-house intensivist; E-ICU staffed with a nurse and APRN around the clock
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, and sedatives
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry monitor strips
• Ventilator and BiPAP equipment in use on the unit
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900; night shift option available 1830–0700
• Scheduling is managed by the unit scheduler
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• Floating required to PCU and medical floors
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Required certifications (must be active, no pending): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of one week of system-level onboarding followed by 1–2 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
• A pass/fail open-book exam is administered on Friday of orientation week covering skills learned during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
• Charge nurse is present on every shift; charge nurse carries a patient assignment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
