Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring ACLS, BLS, and Epic EMR experience with rotating call responsibilities.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital OR with 13 operating suites and 2 minor procedure rooms
- High-volume unit averaging 60–70 cases per day
- Common case types include general, OB/GYN, neuro, vascular, endovascular, orthopedics, plastics, interventional pain, ENT, ophthalmology, and da Vinci robotic surgery — bariatrics and transplants are not performed here
- Dedicated teams exist for cardiac, orthopedic, and vascular/endovascular service lines
- Scrubbing is required for RNs
- 12-hour day shifts with rotating weekday and weekend call
- Rotating weekday call: evening call runs 6:45 PM–11:15 PM; midnight call is typically covered by staff
- Weekend call rotates approximately every 4th–5th weekend (varies by service line); a weekend call block consists of 3–4 call shifts over a six-week schedule
- 30-minute call response time required; call rooms are available on-site
- Floating may be required within compatible service lines (e.g., cardiac-trained staff to endo/vascular; vascular/endo staff to general, urology, GYN, and ortho if comfortable)
- Charting is performed in Epic
- Holiday coverage is handled through the call rotation
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- BLS (AHA) required; ACLS (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience required
- Strong scrub skills preferred; CST is preferred for travelers
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be able to respond to call within 30 minutes of the facility
- A valid, unexpired driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (local travelers are not accepted)
Additional Information
- BSN is not required for this position
- Orientation typically consists of approximately 2 shifts in the OR, with additional shifts available if needed; travelers are paired with a staff member during initial call shifts
- Scheduling requests submitted upfront will be considered; block scheduling is available when operational needs are met
- Hospital-provided scrubs are supplied
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to apply
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- 2 professional references are required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
