Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Cardiac stepdown unit (4A/4B) in an acute care hospital setting — 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery; 4B serves smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
- 44-bed unit with 8 semiprivate rooms (16 beds); average census of 32–38 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at 1:10
- Common diagnoses and procedures include post-op CABG, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery (fem-pop bypass, CEA, TAVR, AAA repair, EVARS, thoracotomy, VATS), arteriograms, stent placements, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, and AFib with RVR
- Telemetry monitoring using Philips equipment; nurses are required to read and interpret rhythm strips
- Cardioactive drips managed on the unit include Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopressin
- Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full mechanical ventilation)
- Charting performed in MEDITECH EMR
- 12-hour night shifts beginning at 6:45 PM
- Every other weekend requirement
- Floating to the ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU
- Hospitalist available in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy also available 24/7; PICC team on site
Requirements
- Active GA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting — no exceptions
- Telemetry strip reading and interpretation required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (as measured to the address on the candidate's driver's license) to be eligible for placement
- Must not have been employed by the facility within the last 12 months
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to a high-acuity cardiac stepdown population with frequent room turnover — expect 12–16 discharges and admissions per shift on busy days
- Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to this skill will be provided if needed
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- Holidays require flexibility to work as needed, including days surrounding holidays
- Any time-off or scheduling requests must be communicated prior to the start of the assignment
- Scrub color required: Caribbean Blue
- Dress code: natural hair color required; no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
- Albany, GA is a city of approximately 80,000 residents located roughly 175 miles from Atlanta
