Position Overview
This position involves providing healthcare services using sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. The role includes performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in various areas, including OB/GYN, abdomen, breast, vascular, and small parts. The individual will demonstrate anatomy for interpretation or intervention as requested by a licensed practitioner while exercising professional judgment and maintaining a demeanor that aligns with medical ethics.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform diagnostic sonography procedures.
- Corroborate patients' clinical history with procedures, ensuring documentation is available for licensed practitioners.
- Prepare patients for procedures; provide clear instructions to achieve desired results and minimize anxiety.
- Select and operate ultrasound equipment and associated devices effectively.
- Position patients and equipment to optimally demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient comfort.
- Immobilize patients as necessary for appropriate examinations.
- Determine ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
- Verify informed consent and assist licensed practitioners with interventional procedures.
- Practice aseptic techniques as required.
- Assume responsibility for the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.
- In accordance with state statutes and institutional policies, prepare, identify, or administer contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
- Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Universal precautions.
- Provide patient education.
- Assist in maintaining records while respecting confidentiality and established policies.
- Take responsibility for assigned areas and report any equipment malfunctions.
- Provide input for equipment purchasing and supply decisions.
- Offer practical instruction for students and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan, including specific quality control duties as assigned.
- Manage inventory and purchase supplies for the assigned area as needed.
- Utilize patient relations skills effectively.
- Pursue necessary continuing education to maintain licensure or certification.
- Accomplish additional duties as assigned.
- Support the hospital’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required education for DNV programs relevant to the position.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited sonography program or equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations
- Required: OBMI and ARDMS registered US Sonographer. Current BLS certification.
- Preferred: CRASE training. If the travel assignment extends beyond a 6-month period, CRASE training will be required.
Experience
- Required: Minimum of 2 years of ultrasound experience.
Shift Information
Variable shifts with holiday coverage required.
