Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Day/Evening shifts
  • 10-hour shifts (06:40 AM - 5:10 PM)
  • Monday through Friday
  • Rotating day off each week
  • No weekends, no holidays, no on-call

Job Description

The Surgical Technologist prepares the Operating Room prior to surgery, promotes patient safety during surgery, assists the surgeon, cares for the patient and surgical instruments throughout the procedure. The role requires knowledge and skills to care for patients of all age groups including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Travelers may be required to float to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, including experience within the last year
  • Successful completion of a surgical technologist program OR two years of experience in a Surgical Technologist role
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Facility Requirements

  • Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
  • Floating to other departments or locations may be required based on staffing needs.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start date, including multi-location search for the past 7 years.
  • Education verification required if surgical technologist program was completed.
  • Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments including safety manual, communicable disease form, and vaccination/exemption documentation.
  • Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols.
  • Immunization and health document requirements including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
    • Other vaccines or declinations as applicable (e.g., meningococcal for certain departments)

  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available.
  • The facility is a Magnet®-designated hospital and a leading teaching institution.
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.
