Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination) based on department needs.
- Patient population primarily includes oncology patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving chemotherapy, diagnostic services, symptom management, and comorbidity management.
- Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration.
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Oncology experience.
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Ability to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:4.
Clinical Skills Required
- Accessing ports.
- Arterial line management.
- Central line care and management.
- PICC line management.
- Assist with chest tube insertion and removal.
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management.
Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam).
Equipment Used
- GE telemetry system (B450 monitors).
- Bladder scanner.
- Alaris infusion pumps.
- Stryker beds.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program required.
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 3 months of start required.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable).
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- Physical exam within 1 year stating good health and free of contagious disease.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Requirements / Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year

- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Notes
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4 weeks but are subject to change based on staffing needs.
- Candidates must be flexible to float within units of similar or lower acuity.
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology med-surg setting with a focus on telemetry and complex patient care needs.
