Description
Job Opportunity: Critical Care Registered Nurse (ICU, 2nd Floor)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour Day Shift (07:00 - 19:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
- On Call: None
- Return to Office (RTO): Pending manager approval
Unit and Patient Population
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 2nd Floor
- Beds: 17 ICU beds within a 136-bed facility
- Patient Types:
- General: COVID, sepsis, alcohol use disorder, IV drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke with TPA, acute renal failure
- Surgical: General surgery, open abdominal, orthopedic (total joints), ENT, OB/GYN
- Cardiac/Vascular: Femoral-popliteal bypass, CABG, valve surgeries, post-cardiac catheterization (radial approach), abdominal aortic aneurysm, amputations
- No complex neuro cases post TNK/TPA
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum Experience: 3 years ICU experience required
- Preferred Experience: Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) with NxStage
- First-Time Travelers: Must have 3 years ICU experience
- Clinical Skills:
- Ventilator and tracheostomy management
- Invasive line management (arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan-Ganz catheter)
- Drains and tube management, Foley catheter care, chest tubes
- Post-surgical recovery and post-cardiac catheterization care
- Experience with fresh heart patients preferred
- Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration (CVVH), Balloon Pumps, CRRT (NxStage)
Certifications
- Required: BLS, ACLS
- Preferred: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Patient Ratios
- RN to patient ratio: 1:2 (acuity based)
- CNA to patient ratio: 1:8 (day), 1:17 (night)
PPE and Safety
- COVID vaccine required
- N95 masks and PAPRs provided
- Adequate PPE supplied
Support and Resources
- Charge Nurse available (occasional patient assignment)
- Unit Secretary (07:00 - 19:30)
- Intensivist coverage 24/7
- ICU-specific Pharmacist (day shift only)
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Phlebotomy team for peripheral blood draws
- Educator support
- Bedside telemetry monitoring
Technology and Equipment
- Electronic Health Record: EPIC (preferred)
- Medication and supply systems: Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing
Floating Assignments
- Intermediate units (1:3 ratio)
- Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU)
- Emergency Department boarding (1:4 ratio)
- Observation units (1:4 ratio)
- Travelers will float first
Orientation
- 1 day orientation
- Day 1: Meet with educator for badge access, computer-based learning, login setup
- Meet and greet with Nurse Manager
- Remainder of shift with a preceptor
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any color allowed except camouflage, denim, or hoodies
- Parking: Free
- Attendance: More than 2 sick calls may lead to contract evaluation and possible termination
