Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Level I)
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 6:45)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Provide care for patients admitted and waiting in the Emergency Department (ED) on bed availability, either in a designated area or possibly hallway.
- May float to acute care areas if no patients are boarded (rare).
- Work every other weekend and some holidays.
- Position requires flexibility to float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Open to accommodating block schedules.
- Local candidates within a 25-mile radius may be considered if there is a critical need.
- First-time travel nurses may be considered based on previous experience.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee (Primary Source Verification required; pending licenses not accepted)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- Emergency Department (ED) experience
- Acute Care experience
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
- Education verification of highest degree earned.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen with alcohol test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (TDAP)
- Negative TB test (QGOLD, Tspot within 3 months or 2 PPDs) and TB questionnaire annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declinations accepted only under specific circumstances)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, history of chickenpox; boosters or declination if negative/equivocal)
- Hepatitis A (required for ED staff)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required annually (10/1 - 3/31) or approved medical/religious exemption with masking required if exempt.
- Fit testing for respiratory protection required prior to orientation.
- Photo for badge must be submitted pre-start (recent, plain background, shoulders up, no filters).
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions.
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable, updated annually.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to work night shifts and be flexible with floating assignments.
- The role involves care for patients in a high-acuity emergency setting with telemetry experience preferred.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Locals may be considered only if there is a critical staffing need.
