Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Location: Johnson City, New York
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Job Summary
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for ordering, preparing, and administering radiopharmaceutical materials to patients. This role involves operating gamma equipment or thyroid uptake and probe devices to visualize the structure and function of major organ systems. The technologist applies knowledge of radiation physics and safety in handling isotopes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a broad range of diagnostic imaging procedures including SPECT and SPECT/CT.
- Prepare image data for interpretation, including documentation, labeling, processing, calculations, and SPECT reconstruction.
- Order, receive, document, store, dispense, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with New York Department of Health regulations.
- Operate within federal and state guidelines for radiation safety and nuclear medicine procedures.
- Maintain required documentation for licensing agencies.
- Collect and dispose of radioactive waste safely.
- Perform and document quality control procedures on equipment daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly according to ACR standards.
- Start intravenous catheter lines, inject radioisotopes, and remove IVs.
- Provide patient education as needed.
- Communicate effectively with referring physicians, radiologists, and other department personnel.
- Adhere to hospital safety, infection control, fire, and disaster policies.
- Maintain patient and hospital information confidentiality.
- Comply with incident reporting policies.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in New York
- Minimum of 1 year of Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
- Certification by NMTCB or ARRT(N)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate’s degree in applied science in Nuclear Medicine
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine (preferred but not required).
No prior travel experience requirement specified.
