Description
Job Title: RN - Med Surg / Tele
Facility: Advocate Southeast
Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift — 36 hours/week
Start Date: 11/17/2025
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) — Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) — Preferred; traveler must pass and demonstrate competency during onboarding
- Med Surg Certification — A plus if possessed

Located at 777 Hemlock St, Macon, GA, Advocate Southeast is a renowned teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds. Accredited as a Level 1 Trauma Center, it boasts several specialized designations including Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, providing a dynamic environment for healthcare professionals committed to excellence.
Unit Information:
- Beds: Each Medical-Surgical unit features 20-36 beds
- Patient Types: Inpatient Med Surg and Telemetry patients with diagnoses including general medical conditions, cardiac issues, post-surgical care, and more
- Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:4-6
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: up to 1:14
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Med Surg/Telemetry RN experience
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid GA RN license (or appropriate state license)
- BLS certification (required)
- ACLS certification (preferred) and may be required to pass competency exam during onboarding
- Certification in Med Surg (a plus)
- Additional Skills:
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometers
- Experience with common drips: insulin, heparin, titrated infusions for HR control
- Ability to perform and interpret EKGs
What You Bring:
- Proven ability to handle complex patient care in a fast-paced environment
- Strong technical skills in IV insertion, chest tube management, and medication administration
- Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to float across all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing program ( ADN or BSN)
- Recent experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or teaching hospital environment
- Experience with EMR systems, preferably EPIC
- Prior telemetry monitoring experience with familiarity using Phillips monitors and VS3 vital sign monitors
Support Within the Department:
- CNA support for patient care activities including vital signs, blood glucose checks, patient hygiene, and safety
- Unit secretary available during certain shifts for administrative support
- Resource nurses including discharge and float nurses to assist with patient turnover and staffing needs
- 24/7 RT (Respiratory Therapy), Hospitalists, and Intensivists for comprehensive patient care
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Med Dispensers: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
- Additional unit-specific equipment such as VS3 monitors and Nova glucose strips
Floating & Orientation:
- Orientation includes a 1-day facility overview and 2 days of departmental training
- Floating to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as required, with comprehensive support and guidance
- Scrub Color: RN - Navy; LPN - Ciel Blue
- Parking: Free on-campus parking available, with options for paid parking decks
