Operating Room Nurse Manager
Location: Rockford, IL
Department: Surgery
Reports to: Director of Surgery
Position Summary:
The Operating Room Nurse Manager is responsible for providing departmental leadership in the planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating the 24-hour operation of the perioperative clinical areas. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care services and efficient business operations in accordance with Medical Center policies and regulatory requirements.
The Nurse Manager leads the development, implementation, and administration of patient care services to achieve departmental goals, including the introduction of new services and procedures. This position proactively manages financial, capital, and human resources to meet established quality and productivity standards and takes corrective actions as necessary. The Nurse Manager also oversees nursing support to ensure quality-driven, cost-effective resource utilization and consistent operations through effective policies and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 24/7 leadership accountability for the perioperative department.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement operational policies and processes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
- Lead initiatives to meet departmental vision and annual business objectives.
- Oversee fiscal management, including budgeting and resource allocation.
- Support quality improvement and staff development efforts.
- Maintain a strong understanding of OR staff roles and assist or audit cases as needed.
- Foster a collaborative and professional work environment.
Schedule & On-Call Expectations:
- Generally works Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with flexibility for early or late shifts as departmental needs arise.
- Holds 24/7 accountability for the department but is rarely required to return to work outside of traditional hours.
- This role does not include routine floor shift coverage.
Case Types:
- Level I Trauma Center.
- Full range of surgical specialties except complex burns and transplant.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Licensure: Active RN license in current state (or ability to obtain/transfer license to Illinois before start date).
- Certifications: BLS required; CNOR preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of related work experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. OR experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred over ASC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CNOR certification.
- Experience in large hospital OR settings.
- Proven track record in managing perioperative services and leading surgical teams.
