ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Mission Hills, California
Job Details

- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks

- Floating: Required to float between PCU and ICU overflow units

Patient Population & Unit Highlights
- Strong neuro experience required
- Patient types include cardiovascular, multi-trauma, gunshot wounds, stroke and STEMI center cases, motor vehicle accidents, orthopedic cases
- Level 2 Trauma center
- Thrombectomy-capable stroke center with high acuity neuro population
- STEMI receiving, CABG/Valve/IABP, CRRT, sepsis, surgical patients
- 12 overflow beds
- Acute care hospital with Magnet designation
- Total staffed beds: 377
- Charting system: Epic
- Free parking available
Required Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- BLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required every 2 years)
- LA Fire Card (must be obtained prior to or within 30 days of start)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit-specific needs (verify with clinical leadership)
Required Licenses & Verifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for California
- NURSYS verification required
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
- E-Verify attestation required
- Education verification (nursing degree)
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel candidates, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; must be updated annually
Background & Compliance
- Drug screen: 9-panel within 12 months (instant acceptable)
- State-specific background checks as applicable
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS
- Epic training modules required prior to or shortly after start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- Strong neuro experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- LA Fire Card (must be obtained prior to or within 30 days of start)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Notes
- No on-call requirement
- No weekend requirement
- Must disclose any Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission
- Candidates must be prepared to float between PCU and ICU overflow units
- Strong neuro and critical care experience highly preferred due to patient acuity and unit complexity
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong neuro skills seeking a night shift travel contract in a high-acuity, trauma and stroke-capable acute care hospital in California.
