You've come to the right place. ECMO Coordinator (RN) The ECMO Coordinator functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher. In collaboration with the medical staff and nursing staff, the ECMO Coordinator monitors the clinical care of patients and uses advanced knowledge to develop evidenced based guidelines for improving patient outcomes. Provides ongoing monitoring to ensure new initiatives and practice guidelines are implemented and hard wired.  Incorporated within each of these role functions, the ECMO Coordinator is a role model, patient advocate, change agent, leader, and cost-effective practitioner.  The ECMO Coordinator supports the mission, vision, and values of Medical City Plano and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Practice autonomously, consistent with practice standards and research based policy/procedures
  • Expands the scientific base of nursing practice by conducting and facilitating nursing research in compliance with IRB and regulatory agencies
  • Coordinates the ECMO Program including: Assisting with Cannulation, Management of patient and resource for medical staff and nursing staff
  • Clinically analyzes current nursing research methods and results for utilization in the expansion and improvement of patient care and patient outcomes including ELSO
  • Contributes to professional nursing literature by publishing scholarly works and presentations
  • Exercise independent judgment within the context of interdisciplinary patient care
  • Determines a plan of care for short term and chronic health problems
  • In an emergent situation, provide care to stabilize the patient & prevent deterioration of patient’s condition
  • Collaborates with members of the health care team to problem solve complex clinical situations for specialty needs of patients
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of ECLS (extracorporeal life support) care path/guidelines, as well as participate in the variance capture and analysis in an effort to enhance quality, service and resource management

RN or RRT  Requirements:  
  • BSN Required;  Master's Degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Texas State RN License or compact license is accepted
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in related area of expertise (ICU) required, 2 years ECMO experience preferred
