Responsibilities Include:
The registered nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations.

" #1. Provide healthcare to all ages and acuity of patients that seek medical care. Some unique patient populations include pediatrics, geriatrics, assault survivors, behavioral, trauma, substance abuse, solid organ and blood and marrow transplant (UMMC). • Understands the general concepts of ESI 5 level triage and can assign an acuity level to an individual patient. • Utilizes the nursing process to provide care for any patient presenting to the department considering their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. • Collaborates with the patient, family, and healthcare team to develop and execute a plan of care to address patient presentations to the ED including illnesses and injuries in all age groups • Prioritize the care of multiple patients. • Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient. Reassesses effectiveness of interventions. • Demonstrates knowledge of ED specific protocols (Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Trauma) • Provides effective and timely patient/family education related to treatment plan. • Demonstrates knowledge of STEPPS process • Performs their designated role in a code situation following the BLS, ACLS, and PALS (ENPC) guidelines. • Assists with procedural sedation and rapid sequence intubations • Provides appropriate and timely interventions for patients presenting with trauma. • Recognizes signs and symptoms of infection, rejection, and immunosuppression therapy. • Assesses and intervenes in the treatment of patients presenting with: • Behavioral and/or substance abuse issues. • Infectious diseases • Mass casualty event • Hazardous material event • Reports appropriate situations to the State Board of Health • Assesses patients for fall risks and institutes appropriate and timely interventions • Assesses patients for suicide risk and abuse potential
#2. Performs advanced monitoring using current technology
Effective Behaviors:
• Safely operates, utilizes and trouble shoots department specific monitoring devices.
• Critically analyzes accuracy of data collected.
• Formulates and carries out nursing interventions based upon data obtained from patient monitoring
#3. Manages complex medication and infusion therapies
Effective Behaviors:
• Safely administers identified categories of medications and infusions guided by knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, normal dosages, and method of delivery.
• Adjusts the patient’s plan of care following the evaluation of patient’s response to medication
#4. Care of the patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions in the department.

Assignment Requirements:
" Required Qualifications: BLS, ACLS, Current Minnesota RN License
Preferred Qualifications: ENPC, BSN. One year Emergency Department, pediatric or adult critical care experience. TNCC Due 12 months after start if still on contract. "
