Clinical Physical Therapist – Research Robotics
Schedule – 20 hours per week based on patient schedule

RESEARCH PHYSICAL THERAPY
• Description: Support a phase I/II clinical trial evaluating the use of an investigational robotic exoskeleton for gait training in children with movement disorders.
o Work with study principal investigator, physician, and other physical therapists to explain the study procedures to research participants.
o Work with the clinical coordinator and other research physical therapists to maintain contact with research participants to ensure their compliance with and completion of study procedures.
o Assist in the administration of the study treatment, which comprises device-assisted overground and treadmill-based gait training.
o Perform clinical assessments of walking and functional mobility, including GMFCS, GMFM-66, PEDI-CAT, 6-minute walk test, and Timed up and go test at multiple time points throughout the longitudinal study.
o Assist in motion capture and electromyography (EMG) data collection during walking and other types of movements.
o Participate in research design, including assisting with selection of appropriate standardized outcome measurements with established validity and reliability.
o Document research procedures performed in the electronic medical record system (CRIS).
o Assist in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of data and research results both internally and to the scientific community at large.
CLINICAL PHYSICAL THERAPY
• Description: Provide direct clinical physical therapy evaluation, assessment and treatments in outpatient settings for medically complex patients in a biomedical research environment in accordance with the NIH Clinical Center established principles, practices, and ethics and the IRB-approved research protocol guidelines.
o Provide evaluation and physical therapy specific to lower extremity function, including walking.
o Provide documentation of assessments and treatment, as well as basic patient notes, in the electronic medical record system (Clinical Research Informatics System CRIS).
o Provide consultations with therapists, physicians, and families to determine recommended course of treatment.
o Documentation and compliance with RMD Quality Assurance and Clinical Center competencies and training.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
• Four or more years of documented clinical or research physical therapy experience performing the following types of tasks:
o Providing outpatient physical therapy care to patients with neuromotor disorders, and/or conditions that are not responding to regular treatment, or who are receiving experimental or infrequently used treatment;
o Administering standardized clinical outcome measurement assessments for individuals with movement disorders or deficiencies;
o Documenting assessment and treatment outcomes in an electronic medical chart;
o Providing patients and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate along with other health care professionals;
• Possess current BLS certification.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
• Two or more years of experience providing physical therapy to pediatric populations, specifically those of cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, and/or incomplete spinal cord injury.
• Experience providing robot-assisted movement therapy.
• A background in clinical research, including in performing research protocols which are governed by an Institutional Review Board or U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Required Degrees/Certifications:
• A degree or diploma from a professional accredited physical therapy program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time of program completion.
• Have an active, current license as a professional physical therapist.
