Overview
Join the Neuro ICU team at a nationally recognized, Magnet-designated University Hospital in Madison, WI. This travel nurse opportunity places experienced critical care RNs in a state-of-the-art 18-bed Neuroscience ICU within a Comprehensive Stroke Center providing care to critically ill adult patients with complex neurological diagnoses.

- Assignment Type: Travel Contract (Travel Nurse / Travel RN opportunity)
- Start Date: April 6, 2026
- End Date: July 6, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour (19:00 – 07:30) with every-other-weekend and some holidays required
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1:2 (Neuro ICU / critical care nurse ratio)
- Parking: Permit required; alternative transportation options available
Compensation
- Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2,130 - $2,250/week
Required Qualifications (Neuro ICU / Critical Care RN)
- Active WI RN license or compact state RN license (must be in hand at submission)
- BLS & ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience (within last 3 years) in Neuro ICU or similar ICU setting
- Previous completion of at least one 13-week travel assignment required (travel nurse experience)
- Epic charting experience preferred (within last 12 months)
- Basic arrhythmia and telemetry experience; must pass telemetry test prior to start
- Experience with ICP monitoring or ventriculostomy (EVD) required
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted); COVID-19 vaccine not required
Key Responsibilities (ICU Nurse / Neurocritical Care)
- Provide high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill adults with neurological diagnoses including stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, post-neurosurgery, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury
- Perform specialized neurocritical care interventions: hemodynamic monitoring, hypothermia protocol, EVD and lumbar drain management, ventilator management
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias, titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, and administer emergency medications promptly
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team (physicians, therapists, pharmacists, and support staff) to optimize patient outcomes
- Float to other units as needed based on staffing requirements
- Maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions according to unit protocols
- Participate in ongoing education, orientation, and competency validation
