Respiratory Therapist – Georgia (Albany)
Job Details
- Contract Length: 17 weeks
- Shift: Days (6:45 AM start, clock-in window 6:38 AM - 6:46 AM)
- Hours per Day: 12 hours
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Work Setting: ICU and Emergency Room (ER)
- Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics (including NICU if applicable)
- Typical Caseload: 13-15 patients per shift, approximately 550 treatment minutes per shift
- Ventilators Used: Servo vents (U and I models)
- EMR System: Meditech
- Call: None
- Weekend/Holiday: Rotating weekend teams (M-Thurs or F-Sun); holidays rotated every other holiday with permanent staff
- Scrub Color: Ceil blue scrubs and jacket only
Required Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience, including critical care experience
- At least 1 prior travel contract completed
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (NRP required if working in NICU)
- Comfortable and experienced with intubating patients and managing airways
- Ability to manage high and heavy workloads in a fast-paced environment
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform all respiratory therapy duties including nebulizer treatments, airway management, vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator management, ABG collection, bedside pulmonary function tests, chest physiotherapy
- In ICU: place arterial lines, manage blood gases, intubate patients, perform bronchoscopies
- Manage up to 4 airways per shift in ICU (ventilator, heated aerosol, trach off vent, etc.)
- Confident in ventilator management, reading ABGs, and alerting for critical values
- Serve as Charge RT and Clinical Coordinator when assigned
Orientation & Training
- Floor assignments: 2-week orientation (hospital/charting orientation first week; gradual increase in treatment minutes second week)
- ICU assignments: Additional week of orientation beyond floor orientation
- Training provided for arterial line placement and advanced ventilator management
Work Environment
- Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house 24/7 (MDs or NPs)
- Pharmacy available 24/7
- Average staffing: 10-11 therapists per shift depending on unit needs
- No floating between units
This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists comfortable with critical care, airway management, and working in a high-acuity hospital environment.
