Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newnan, Georgia
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Unit Details
- Patient diagnoses include general medical surgical and peritoneal dialysis.
- Weekend schedule: Every other weekend.
- No on-call required.
- Floating within facility and scope of practice as needed.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Licenses & Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for certain specialties; verify if applicable.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required only if working in specific pediatric-related areas (e.g., ER, PACU).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable per specialty.
- State license verification and annual NURSYS verification required within 30 days prior to start.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including national and county criminal searches, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and education verification.
- Education verification required; official transcripts/diploma or verified license acceptable if pending at start (due within 30 days post start).
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start (not required by client but required by agency).
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive history, additional documentation required. TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) highly recommended but not mandatory.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable.
Competency Exams & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by agency.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for telemetry, ICU, ER, and related specialties; up to 3 attempts allowed.
- Color blindness test required; alternative evaluation available if needed.
- General competency exam required by agency for nursing staff.
Orientation & Scheduling Notes
- Orientation hours vary by contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
- Maximum Return to Orientation (RTO) time is 7 days.
- Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling.
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday occurs during assignment, traveler must work it.
- If 2 major holidays occur, traveler must work both.
- If 3 major holidays occur, traveler must work 2 of them.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year’s Eve/Day.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start.
- Two clinical references required by agency.
- Skills checklist updated within the last 12 months required.
- Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
This position offers an opportunity for travel nurses with at least one year of experience to work night shifts in a medical surgical unit with a focus on general medical surgical and peritoneal dialysis patients. The assignment requires full compliance with licensure, certifications, immunizations, background checks, and competency testing prior to start.
