Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0630)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Patient Types: Open heart surgery, complex thoracic and vascular patients
- Support Devices: Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO
- Common Procedures: Cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs
- Additional Cases: Complex cases from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge
- Must have at least 1 year of experience with this patient population
- Ability to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips (no telemetry tech support)
Orientation & Evaluation
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
- RN skills exam during orientation (open book) requiring a minimum 90% to pass
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- No CNAs or patient care techs on the unit
- Hospitalists and intensivists in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment present; RNs troubleshoot as needed
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
- Holiday coverage: Every other or as needed based on unit needs
- Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application (used to verify candidate is within 50 miles radius)
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific healthcare system
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
This position requires a highly skilled CVICU RN with strong critical care experience, excellent telemetry interpretation skills, and the ability to manage complex cardiac patients and advanced support devices in a fast-paced ICU environment.
