Physical Therapist - Home Health (Travel/Contract)

Location: Silver Spring, Maryland
Contract Length: 20 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (40 hours/week)
  • Caseload: Adult health care cases, approximately 6 visits per day
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: No weekend requirement; block scheduling accommodated (M-F)
  • Local candidates accepted within the same Baltimore metro area radius

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Physical Therapist license in Maryland
  • Minimum 1 year of Physical Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; international searches required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • Education verification: Transcript, diploma, or third-party education verification required (highest degree completed)
  • Maryland CJIS/DSS/FBI fingerprinting required for behavioral health units (not applicable here but noted)
  • Drug screening: 11-panel drug test including cotinine/nicotine and marijuana within 30 days of start; must include cotinine/nicotine & marijuana panels
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test required within 12 months of start; must comply with facility mask options and grooming policies (no facial hair interfering with mask fit)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years, must include Pertussis)
    • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON-TB Gold or TSPOT within 90 days) or two-step TB skin test
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; 2 boosters required for low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Positive quantitative IGG titer within 5 years; series must be completed if low titer
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; 2 boosters required for low titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); no declination except approved medical/religious exemptions
  • Visual acuity exam within 6 months of start, repeated annually; minimum corrected vision 20/40 both eyes
  • Color blind exam within 5 years, required for all travelers
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declinations require facility approval

Documentation & Certifications

  • State license: Hard copy required in addition to primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs (not applicable here)
  • BLS certification (AHA only), valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (taken within last 6 months, professional attire, neutral background)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Completed employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually (as applicable)

Facility Policies

  • Smoke/nicotine free campus; no nicotine/cotinine allowed
  • Candidates must comply with fit mask testing and grooming policies; no onsite fit testing or exemptions allowed without approved accommodation forms
  • Medical or religious exemptions for fit testing require completed facility exemption forms and approval; approved candidates trained on PAPR use
  • Fingerprinting and background checks must be completed timely to avoid delays in start date
  • Facility requires timely submission of all documents and compliance with all health and safety requirements

Additional Notes

  • No on-call requirement
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: 1 request allowed
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility over 1 year
  • Radiation badge and related requirements not applicable for this role

This position is ideal for physical therapists with at least 1 year of experience in adult home health care, who hold a valid Maryland PT license and are comfortable working a standard weekday schedule in a home health setting. First-time travel therapists are welcome. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific policies is mandatory.
