Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care/ICU-CCU (Night Shift)

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Night Shift)
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Care for adult patients in critical care settings including cardiac telemetry, stroke, vascular intervention, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a Basic Dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to continue working in the ICU-CCU.
  • Estimated workweek is 36 hours with possible overtime.
  • Rotate every other weekend and every other holiday.
  • May be placed on call during low census periods; if called in, must respond and arrive onsite within one hour.
  • EPIC EMR experience within the last 12 months on a similar unit is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa.
  • Minimum 2 years of Coronary Care Unit (CCU) experience, with at least 1 year of recent CCU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
  • Experience with Epic EMR system.

Required Certifications and Health Requirements (Must be current or completed prior to start)

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications.
  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
  • MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
  • Influenza vaccine (optional but recommended during flu season).
  • TB test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG). If history of positive TB, must provide chest x-ray within 5 years and recent questionnaire.
  • Fit test for approved respirators (Moldex 1510, 3M 1860s, 3M 1860, Moldex 1513, 3M 1870+).
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low/equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
  • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years; declinations accepted.
  • Health statement/physician statement within last 12 months.

Additional Onboarding Requirements

  • Professional license verification (primary source verification within 30 days of start).
  • Background check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance as required by state.
  • Education verification through third party.
  • Drug screen (9 panel) within 30 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor.
  • Driver’s license or state ID current and valid.
  • Various organizational attestations and acknowledgments (e.g., skills checklist, OSHA questionnaire, contract employee data sheet).
  • Epic registration acknowledgment form after completing registration.
  • Pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgment.

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Traveler must be able to work independently and maintain high professional standards.
  • Occasional call-in availability required with a one-hour response time.

This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with telemetry and cardiac patient populations, who have recent EPIC EMR experience and are prepared for night shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.
