Description
Registered Nurse - Operating Room (CVOR)
Location: San Diego, California
Employment Type: Travel Nursing (Clinical - Nursing)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day shifts
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provide perioperative nursing care with a focus on cardiovascular surgery, including open heart procedures. Support patient and family through individualized, holistic care plans developed and implemented using the nursing process. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, advocate for patients, and ensure therapeutic communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive, age- and culturally appropriate nursing care plans.
- Use nursing interventions to meet patient/family goals and adapt plans as needed.
- Assess and address patient and family educational needs using adult-learning theory.
- Serve as a patient advocate, encouraging participation in decision-making and upholding rights.
- Delegate and assign care within team members’ scope of practice.
- Coordinate and communicate with healthcare team members and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes and workflow.
- Participate in patient care conferences and document patient responses and care activities per guidelines.
- Analyze socio-cultural factors to tailor nursing interventions.
Required Qualifications
- Current California RN license.
- CPR certification.
- Minimum 3 years recent RN experience.
- At least 2 years recent experience in a specialty area.
- Strong cardiovascular surgery experience, including open heart surgery.
- Ability to work other surgical cases when cardiovascular cases are unavailable, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and robotics.
- Must complete and attach the Operating Room RN questionnaire as part of the application.
On-Call Requirements
- 12 hours overnight on Friday night and 12 hours on Saturday (day or night as needed) every 4 weeks.
- 30-minute response time while on call.
Additional Skills
- Proficient in delegation, care coordination, nursing process, plan of care development, patient care documentation, patient education, adult-learning theory, socio-cultural analysis, patient advocacy, and interdisciplinary communication.
