Registered Nurse (LTC/SNF)

Location: Canistota, South Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday if it falls within your scheduled block

Facility & Patient Population

• 55-bed geriatric psychiatric long-term care/skilled nursing facility
• Patient population primarily elderly with dementia
• Behavioral program includes patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and paranoia (medication management effective)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Day shift: approximately 1 nurse per 23 patients
  • Overnight shift: approximately 1 nurse per 45 patients
• Med aide support available from 6 AM to 10 AM; 1 nurse on duty from 10 PM to 6 AM
• Electronic Medical Record system: PCC

Orientation & Training

• Location-specific orientation including training, tour, competencies
• Opportunity to shadow 1-2 shifts before starting

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in South Dakota
• BLS Certification required
• Preferred: Experience in psychiatric long-term care, especially with geriatric psych patients

Additional Notes

• No on-call or call-back responsibilities
• Backouts or quits with less than 14 days’ notice incur a $500 fee
• Weekend and holiday scheduling follows block schedule
• Most skilled charting and COVID-related documentation completed during day shift

This position is ideal for RNs with LTC/SNF experience who are comfortable working with elderly patients, including those with psychiatric diagnoses, in a structured long-term care environment.
