Description
Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery) - Night Shift
Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Unit Overview
- Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with 8 LDRP beds and 2 triage beds
- Approximately 25 births per month
- Level 1 Nursery caring for infants 35 weeks gestation or greater
- No OR suites on the unit for C-sections
- No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia coverage 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: OBIX
- No Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs read their own strips
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit
- Charge nurse takes an assignment
Scheduling & Shifts
- Night shift: 7 pm to 7 am, 12-hour shifts
- Block scheduling available; grouping shifts in blocks of 6 or 8 is preferred
- Weekend and holiday work required
- No call or standby requirements
- No floating to other units
- Orientation: 2 days, unit-specific
Required Certifications & Skills
- Current BLS (AHA) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience and skills in labor, postpartum, and nursery care on an LDRP unit
- Ability to titrate Pitocin drips only
Patient Care & Guidelines
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
- Common patient diagnoses: Level 1 nursery infants (≥35 weeks gestation)
- Pitocin is the primary titratable medication on the unit
Dress Code
- Option to wear own scrubs or provided grey OR scrubs
