Description
Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (Contract)
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide primary nursing care in a 15-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) consisting of 3 step-down ICU beds and 12 telemetry beds.
- Patient ratios: 1:4 in Progressive Care, 1:3 in Step-down ICU.
- Scheduled for 36 hours per week after the first week of orientation; no guaranteed hours and no on-call required.
- May float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and Emergency Room.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Hawaii required by the start of the assignment (travelers without a current license must apply immediately upon offer acceptance).
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Acute care experience required.
- ACLS certification required.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
Skills and Responsibilities
- Primary nursing care delivery.
- Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip reading.
- Fingerstick blood sugar testing.
- Use of Meditech electronic charting system.
- Medication administration via Pyxis system.
- Operation of BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring equipment.
Additional Information
- Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
- Dress code: Scrubs.
