Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lubbock, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Medical Surgical (MS)
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care
Beds: 379
Trauma Level: Level II Trauma Center


Job Details

  • Position will float between units.
  • Weekend shifts required: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period.
  • On-call: Not required.
  • Block schedules: Not required.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5.
  • Special requirement: Epic Hardstop system.
  • 48-hour shifts approved.
  • Dress code for licensed nursing personnel: solid navy blue uniforms or scrubs (print tops not allowed except in specific pediatric and women’s services units).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
  • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel nurses, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and screenings:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or signed declination.
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.

Background & Verification

  • Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma.
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs.
  • Employment history verification and skills checklists as applicable.
  • State-specific searches and attestations as required (e.g., Washington, Oregon).

Additional Requirements

  • Float policy acknowledgment: may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
  • Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required.
  • Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
  • Epic system training and transcript submission required.

Work Environment

  • Night shift in a Level II Trauma Center acute care hospital.
  • Expected to work in a fast-paced medical surgical unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Floating between units may be required.
  • Dress code strictly enforced for nursing staff.
  • Free parking available in designated employee/visitor lots.
