Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Tele Float

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Float nurse position covering Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • Required to work all scheduled shifts; no scheduling outside approved requests.
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
  • Must be proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • High volume of peripheral nerve catheters on orthopedic floors.
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs.
  • Split 12-hour shifts into 8 hours in one area and 4 hours in another; strong time management skills required.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend; flexibility requested.
  • Locals accepted.
  • Compact nursing license accepted; pending licenses not accepted.
  • Travel pairs are discouraged by management.

Facility Highlights

  • Magnet-designated, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center.
  • 500 staffed beds.
  • Float pool covers acute care, telemetry, behavioral health, and respite units.
  • Experience with Orthopedics, Neurology, Stroke, and Cardiac Telemetry required.
  • Charting system: Epic (mandatory).
  • Scrub color: Any solid color; light blue scrubs provided on unit.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Experience with high volume of peripheral nerve catheters.
  • Stroke experience, including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Required Health and Safety Documentation

  • Physical exam within 1 year (not required by facility but required by agency).
  • Mask fit test within 12 months (3M 1860R, 1860S, or 1870+ masks).
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years) or declination form.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines).
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; vaccine series plus re-titer if needed).
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines).
    • Annual flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season).
    • COVID vaccination or declination (for tracking purposes).
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Drug screen within past 12 months (agency requirement; not required by facility).
  • Meningococcal vaccine required only for microbiology lab techs (not applicable here).

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 1, and WA WATCH search.
  • Education verification required.
  • WA State license complaint clearance required for all using WA license.
  • Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in WA.
  • Demographic attestation required for multi-state licensed nurses working in WA.
  • Badge photo required (professional, waist-up, clear lighting, no hats).
  • Various facility-specific signed documents required (e.g., license acknowledgment, equipment safety, health history, policies and procedures, job description, PCIS agreement, personal data form, code of conduct acknowledgment).

Additional Notes

  • Orientation modules must be completed before start date; typically take 2-3 hours.
  • Shuttle service available for offsite parking (weekday use only).
  • Daily onsite parking fees apply.
  • Candidates must be flexible with weekend scheduling and shift assignments.
  • No block scheduling accommodations.
  • Candidates must complete all pending license requirements (e.g., fingerprinting) prior to starting.

References and Evaluations

  • Two professional references required.
  • Performance evaluations may be completed by managers after assignment completion.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and medical-surgical float experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
