Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)
Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (48 hours/week)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week minimum
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Unit & Specialty Details
- CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) with high acuity critical care patients
- Requires experience in Cardiac/CVICU ICU care (minimum 2 years)
- No neuro ICU experience accepted
- Patient care includes ventilator management, arterial line, pulmonary artery catheter, pacemakers, Impella devices, balloon pumps, LVADs
- Conditions managed: acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload, post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
- Use of vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring, dialysis, Foley catheter care, intra-aortic balloon pumps
- Floating within the service line may be required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license) required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri) required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- Facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) required through facility’s learning system unless completed in current calendar year
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required within 1 year of start
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
Work Conditions & Additional Information
- Start date approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
- Time off allowed: up to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during contract
- No on-call required
- Parking: Night shift parking is free in employee lots; day/night rotation requires paid parking pass
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Electronic charting system: EPIC
- Facility is a Magnet & Teaching Hospital and Level I Trauma Center with 1,266 staffed beds
