Description
- General Information
- Level III Nursery
- 200 births per year
- Beds: 4 Labor & 4 Postpartum
- Minimum experience? 2 years
- Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes with at least 3 years L&D experience – decline otherwise
- Patient Types:
- Low risk; all high risk are patients are transferred out for labor and delivery,
- LDRP – meaning the patient will stay on this unit for Antepartum, Intrapartum and Postpartum/Couplet care. Traveler must be comfortable with all phases as well as care of well babies – confirm in offer they are comfortable with this
- Post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, feeders/growers
- They also get MSU surgical patient overflows. Low acuity patients there for IV Antibiotics, swing bed or rehab. No infectious patients, no telemetry monitoring – confirm in offer they are comfortable with this – average ratio with Med/Surg patients would be 1:2-3 patients
- They have a low volume of deliveries, averaging 200/year.
- Rooming in model – there is no dedicated Nursery/Nursery RN – RN will care for babies as well
- Patient Ratios:
- Based on AWHONN guidelines
- 1:2 Laboring
- 1:1 Active Labor
- 1:3-4 Couplets
- 1:2-3 Med Surg
- Based on AWHONN guidelines
- Required Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
- Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
- STABLE – must complete within 30 days of start
- Skills required:
- This is an LDRP - Traveler must have experience with all phases of Labor and Postpartum care, as well as care of well babies
- Shoulder dystocia, Epidural management, nitrous as requested, intrathecal spinal analgesia, will go into C-sections only to catch babies and provide neonatal care – will not be required to circulate C-sections at this time,
- Care of the newborn to include: VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin babies, NAS babies
- Support on the Unit:
- Unit is staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, 3 nurses at times.
- CNA: none
- HUC: available 4 days per week
- Midwife will do most of the care
- OB is available if needed (will need to call)
- Charge nurse
- Phlebotomy
- RT 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7
- Charting System: Cerner
- Floating: If yes, where?
- MS or ED to task only (no patient assignment taken)
- Orientation: (facility and unit)
- General hospital orientation
- 1 shift on unit
- Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: Every other
- Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No call
- Holiday Expectations: Every other
- Approval of time off? Seek manager approval, Kim McGeoghegan
