Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility: Prisma Health Richland Hospital
Hospital System: Prisma Health Palmetto Health
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: CVOR RN - Days
Special Requirement: Open Heart Experience required
Certification Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)


Job Description

  • Prisma Health requires all contracted agency staff to float to other units or campuses as needed due to census concerns.
  • Floating will only be to units where the nurse is qualified and has demonstrated competencies.
  • Call requirements will be discussed during the interview.

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA, RQI, or ARC only; no online-only cards accepted; must be current and valid for at least 30 days after start date.

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for many units including ICU, ER, Cath Lab, PACU, etc. Must be AHA or ARC certified.

  • Other Possible Certifications (depending on unit):

    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for ER/ED and Pediatric ER
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) for applicable units
    • CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) for ER/ED, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health
    • NIH Stroke Certification for ICU, Neuro ICU, CVICU, ER, and other specified units
    • STABLE for L&D and NICU
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) for ER and Pediatric ER
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required annually for medication-dispensing roles)
    • Core Parts I, II, III (annual training including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.)
    • Color Blind Testing for ED, Pediatric ER, and MLT/MLS roles
    • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for applicable units with a passing score of 84%

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Licenses:

    • State RN license with primary source verification, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start.
    • NURSYS verification required for all nursing licenses.
  • Background Checks:

    • 7-year criminal background check less than 12 months old.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days during assignment.
    • Fingerprinting required for certain roles and states (e.g., WV).
  • Health Documents:

    • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for high-risk areas)
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
      • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (second vaccine must be completed within 28 days of first)
      • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
      • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (second vaccine must be completed within 28 days of first)
    • Drug screening within 1 year, 5-panel minimum
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2024-25 season
  • Other:

    • Photo for badge (passport style, specific background and quality requirements)
    • Completion of Prisma Health online orientation modules and pre-assignment testing within 72 hours of assignment notification
    • Floating policy acknowledgment (annual)
    • Contractor acknowledgment (time sensitive, annual)

Important Notes

  • Prisma Health is a latex-free environment.
  • Fit mask (respirator fit test) will be completed onsite during orientation.
  • Candidates must have all certifications current and valid for the entire length of the assignment.
  • Proof of completion certificates are generally not accepted; actual certification cards are required.
  • Testing and orientation modules are mandatory and must be completed before starting onsite.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed within Prisma Health facilities.

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with open heart surgery experience who are flexible and able to work in a dynamic hospital environment with floating requirements.
