Description
Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) - 780935
Schedule: Day/Night/Weekend/Holiday Rotation (3x12-hour shifts) + 2 On-Call shifts per 4-week period
Required Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital RN experience
- Minimum 1 year of hospital Emergency Department RN experience
Position Summary
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse delivers high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families in urgent and emergent situations. The ED RN prioritizes needs through clinical assessment and triage, implements appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient condition and progress. The role requires utilizing both invasive and non-invasive procedures and applying technical and communication skills to manage life-threatening and routine emergency conditions. The ED RN incorporates relationship-based care, focuses on alleviating anxiety, supports safety and comfort, and addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients of all ages.
Essential Responsibilities
- Triage & Initial Care
- Connects with patients and families upon arrival, identifies urgency level using ESI standards, and prioritizes care accordingly.
- Provides clear communication, comfort measures, and timely updates throughout the ED stay.
- Assessment & Intervention
- Performs rapid primary and secondary assessments, recognizes deviations from normal, and initiates appropriate interventions.
- Uses observations, interviews, EMS reports, and clinical data to support care decisions.
- Reassesses to monitor response to treatment and adjusts plan as needed.
- Identifies and reports concerns such as abuse, safety risks, or psychosocial needs.
- Collaboration & Teamwork
- Builds trust and cooperation among the care team to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Delegates tasks appropriately based on competency, scope, and training.
- Practices infection prevention and maintains a safe clinical environment.
- Education & Discharge Planning
- Prepares patients/families for procedures and treatments.
- Provides clear discharge instructions and education tailored to learning needs.
- Verifies understanding through patient/family feedback.
- Patient-Centered Care
- Maintains awareness of patient condition throughout the visit and communicates proactively.
- Ensures patient/family are informed and supported emotionally and physically.
- Updates communication boards and anticipates ongoing needs.
