Travel RN Job Profile: ICU / Critical Care
📍 Location & Facility
- Location: Grafton, WI
- Facility Type: 136-Bed Hospital
- Trauma Level: Level III Trauma Center
- Specialties: Level II NICU | Primary Stroke Center
- Parking: Free on-site
- Vaccine Policy: COVID-19 vaccine required
🛌 Unit Overview: 2nd Floor ICU
- ICU Beds: 17
- RN Ratio: 1:2 (Acuity-based)
- CNA Ratio: 1:8 (Days) | 1:17 (Nights)
- Shift: Days (0700–1930)
- On-Call: None
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
- Requested Time Off (RTO): Pending manager approval
🧠 Candidate Requirements
- ICU Experience: 3 years minimum (Required for all applicants, including first-time travelers)
- Certifications Required: BLS | ACLS
- Certifications Preferred: NIHSS
- EMR/Tech Preferred: EPIC | Alaris | Pyxis
💉 Clinical Skills & Patient Population
- Required ICU Skills: Vent/trach care | Invasive lines (A-line, CVP, Swan-Ganz) | Drains/tubes | Foley care | Chest tubes | Post-surgical recovery | Post-cath care | CVVH | Balloon Pumps | CRRT (NxStage experience preferred)
- Preferred Experience: Fresh heart recovery
- General Patients: COVID-19 | Sepsis | ETOH | IVDA | Overdose (OD) | SI | Delirium | GI Bleed | Stroke with TPA | ARF
- Surgical Patients: General | Open abdomen | Ortho (Total joints) | ENT | OBGYN
- Cardiac/Vascular: Fem-pop bypass | CABG | Valves | Post-cath (Radial approach) | AAA | Amputations
- Exclusions: No complex neuro post-TNK/TPA
🏥 Unit Support & Resources
- Provider Cover: 24/7 Intensivist | 24/7 Respiratory Therapist (RT)
- Pharmacy: ICU-specific Pharmacist (Day shift only)
- Leadership: Charge Nurse (Occasional patient assignment) | Unit Educator | Nurse Manager
- Clerical: Unit Secretary available 0700–1930
- Ancillary: Phlebotomy team for peripheral draws | Bedside telemetry monitoring
🗺️ Orientation & Floating Rules
- Orientation: 1 Day total (0800 Educator meeting ➡️ Badge/CBLs/Logins ➡️ Manager Meet & Greet ➡️ Preceptor shadowing)
- Floating Protocol: Travelers float first
- Floating Units: Intermediate units (1:3) | MSU | ED Boarding (1:4) | Observation units (1:4)
⚠️ Key Policy Notes
- PPE: N95 and PAPRs provided; adequate PPE stock guaranteed.
- Dress Code: Any solid color scrubs. No camo, denim, or hoodies.
- Attendance: Strict policy. More than 2 sick calls triggers an automatic contract review and potential termination.
