Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: San Diego, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour day shifts (Monday through Friday)
- Shift Start Times: Variable between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM depending on patient volume
- Major Holidays: Off
- Patient Population: Pediatric oncology patients (15-25 per day) including brain tumors, Ewings Sarcoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, lymphomas, neuroblastoma, anemia, leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, hemophilia, ITP, sickle cell anemia
- Unit Focus: Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Radiation Oncology, Proton Therapy
- Clinical Skills Required:
- Central line and IV starts
- Port-a-cath accessing
- Imaging and radiation treatment under general anesthesia
- Pre-procedure check-in and PACU recovery
- Central line maintenance
- Medication administration
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of oncology experience within the last year
- Pediatric hematology/oncology experience
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Chemotherapy certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid photo ID (front and back) required on first day
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including criminal and national databases
- Education verification with transcripts/diploma or third-party verification
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams (100% passing score required)
- Annual competency exams with pediatric focus (minimum 80% score)
- RN Medication Calculation Exam (100% passing score required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health without restrictions
- Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Hepatitis B series or titer (titer preferred)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Negative TB test (Qgold/Tspot within 6 months or two negative PPDs)
- Negative 9-panel drug test (non-THC) within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Badge photo meeting specific requirements (recent, plain background, JPEG format)
- Completion and signing of facility-specific forms including confidentiality, code of conduct, HIPAA, meal waiver, and professional accountability expectations
