Registered Nurse – Cardiac/Pediatric ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Details

  • Unit Type: Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU)
  • Beds: 32
  • Average Daily Census: 21
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Patient Diagnoses: Post-op open heart surgery, single ventricles, complex cardiac anatomy/physiology, heart transplant, heart failure
  • Special Procedures/Exposure: Invasive cardiac monitoring (CVP, ART, RA), ECMO, CRRT, vasopressors, cardiac and sedation drips

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of CVPICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license valid in Nebraska
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and state-specific registry checks
  • NURSYS license verification
  • National tech certification verification (within 30 days of start)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and color blindness test
  • Unit-specific competency exam

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, by MD, DO, PA, NP, or APRN
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or completed vaccine series; no declinations allowed)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of disease)
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Annual flu vaccination required for new starts beginning 10/1/2025 or approved exemption on file
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 12 months prior to start

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 2 years of start date
  • Annual skills checklist update
  • Completion of facility-specific forms and processes prior to start (e.g., Cognito form)

Notes

  • If primary experience is PICU but floated to Cardiac ICU, indicate frequency in work history
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • All certifications and background checks must be current and verified within specified timeframes before start date
